Coates ES offers full-time Advanced Academic classes in grades 3-6 for students found eligible through the county referral process. FCPS eligibility information, including an explanation of the process and deadlines, can be found on the FCPS AAP website.

Besides our full-time AAP classes, we believe that all students should have access and exposure to rigorous units of study and high levels of academic challenge.  Our AAP teachers work closely with their teammates in the general education classes to elevate the already-strong FCPS curriculum.  It’s common to see Coates teachers in all classrooms use teaching strategies from the AAP curriculum!

We also offer regular visits to the Creativity Lab.  This is a place where students detach from the formal curriculum and work collaboratively through challenges that help them learn higher order skills like the ones noted in our mission.
