Mrs. Adams
1st Grade Teacher

Mrs. Adams joined the first grade team at Coates in 2018. She graduated from Christopher Newport University receiving her Bachelors degree in English. Following her undergraduate years, Mrs. Adams graduated from George Mason University receiving her Masters in Elementary Education. In Mrs. Adams' spare time, she enjoys spending time with her daughter and husband, going to baseball games (Go Yankees!), walking her dog, and playing sports.

Mrs. Barnes
1st Grade Teacher

Mrs. Barnes has been teaching since 2012. Her favorite part of 1st grade is when students laugh during read alouds at the carpet. When Mrs. Barnes is not at school she loves reading on her Kindle and eating ice cream with her family on their front porch. She can't wait to meet you!

Ms. Hammons
1st Grade Teacher

I started teaching first grade in 2023. I received my undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!) and my Masters in Elementary Education at George Mason University. I am originally from Southwestern Virginia, and I moved to Northern Virginia in 2022. In my free time, I enjoy reading and spending time with my dog!

Ms. Lucas
1st Grade Teacher

Ms. Lucas joined Coates in 2016. She previously taught kindergarten and first grade at McNair Elementary. Ms. Lucas graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with her undergraduate degree in Japanese Language and Literature. She obtained her Masters of Education in Teaching from the University of Hawaii. Ms. Lucas is originally from Maine. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and reading.

Ms. Luecke
1st Grade Teacher

Ms. Luecke joined the Coates family in 2023. Throughout her time as an educator, she has taught kindergarten through 3rd grade at Fort Belvoir Primary (6 years) and Fairfax Villa Elementary (2 years). She received her Bachelor's in Education from Salisbury University, Maryland and Master's in Educational Leadership from Western Governors University. Ms. Luecke enjoys spending time with family, friends, and working out.

Mrs. O'Hara
1st Grade Teacher

Mrs. O'Hara has been teaching since 2016. She has enjoyed teaching 1st grade students and helping them to develop a love of Reading. She has a Bachelor's degree in English from Potsdam University and a Master's Degree in English from Ottawa Carleton University. Her favorite things to do are to spend time with her family, travel, and read.
