Become a Mentor

Mentor a Student

We want interested adults from the community to serve as role models for students in need of one.  This is not academic tutoring—this is an opportunity for kids to make a connection to positive, supportive adults who will listen to them and share advice on being a positive person!  Our mentors commit to having lunch one day per week with their mentee.  During these times, mentees and mentors can talk, play board games, and simply eat and laugh together.  Mentors should bring their own lunch.

All mentors must complete a background check with FCPS.

We offer an overview of our mentorworks program at school on September 6, 2019 from 9:30-10.   No commitments needed to attend.  Hear us out, speak to other mentors from the surrounding businesses, and think about mentoring at Coates.  If you volunteer to mentor, we’ll help you through the fingerprinting process, link you with a student, obtain parent permission, and otherwise support you.  This could be the best part of your week!

Questions can be directed to our school counselors, Mrs. Eagan (@email ) & Mrs. Allen (@email ), (703) 713-3000.  If you’re interested in learning about the Coates Mentorworks program after the September meeting, no problem!  Contact us.  We’re always looking to build our team of mentors!
