Parent Resources – Creating Reading Routines at Home
Welcome to our reading resource page for parents. The Coates Home-School Compact states that parents are committed to establishing an at-home reading routine and that our staff is committed to supporting these endeavors. Whether your child is struggling with reading or is reading well beyond grade level, we want to equip you with a better understanding of literacy and provide a plan to grow your child’s reading skills.
Our system for supporting parents has 4 parts:
1. View Module 1: Making Reading Happen & Being the Model (6 minutes)
2. Read Your “Reading Routines at Home” Booklet (It’s specific to your child’s grade or reading level so ask your teacher for your child’s level) (Booklets: Kindergarten , 1st Grade , 2nd Grade , 3rd Grade , 4th Grade , 5th Grade , 6th Grade , English Learner)
3. View Module 2 (K-2nd Grade or 3rd-6th Grade): Establishing your At-Home Reading Routine (8 minutes)
4. View Module 3: Specific Strategies to Support Your Reader (about 15 minutes) (Module 3 is specific to your child’s grade level or reading level. Watch your specific video: Kindergarten , 1st Grade , 2nd Grade , 3rd Grade , 4th Grade , 5th Grade , 6th Grade , English Learner)
